James (Jim) Nathaniel Brown

Major Notes:
Jim Brown is considered as one of the greatest football players ever to play in the National Football League.
In addition, he is also recognized as a noted Hollywood movie actor.
Brown's parents divorced when he was still a youngster and he was raised by his mother who worked as a housekeeper.
He attended Manhasset High School where he excelled in several sports including football and baseball.
Unable to obtain an athletic scholarship, a local benefactor helped Brown to attend his first year attendance at Syracuse University.
It was here that he earned his first athletic scholarship starring in both football and lacrosse.
Jim Brown was a rugged footballer and would carry the ball again and again even after being brought down hard by opposition tacklers.
He was recruited by the Cleveland Browns in 1957.
Over the years, Jim Brown won numerous football laurels including Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year.
In 1964, Brown took an opportunity to act in a movie which led him to starting a new career.
When he announced his retirement from football in 1966, Brown led the NFL in touchdowns by any player and had won two league MVP awards.
Brown completed work in the movie, The Dirty Dozen, and began a serious acting career.
In 1971, Jim Brown was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame
He also was a social activist in that he founded both the Black Economic Union and Amer-I-Can, an organization devoted to inner cities and prisons.
Jim Brown was named by Sporting News as the "greatest football player of all time."
